Regarding the New Coronavirus Infection
[ 2020.02.07 ]
Since last December, numerous cases of the novel coronavirus infection have been reported in the city of Wuhan, Hubei province, the People's Republic of China, and the cases continue to be reported throughout the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Committee announced on January 31 (Japan time) that the outbreak of novel coronavirus-associated pneumonia in Wuhan meets the criteria for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Based on these circumstances, Japan has designated the novel coronavirus infection as an infectious disease under the Infectious Diseases Control Law, and also as a Quarantinable Infectious Disease under the Quarantine Act.
Nikkei Inc. is gathering essential information, including information released by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW). As of February 3, the MHLW website contains the following information in their "message to citizens of Japan."
The novel coronavirus infection is not currently recognized as an epidemic in Japan. It is extremely important that each and every citizen practices the same measures for preventing colds and seasonal flu, such as etiquette when coughing and washing your hands. We ask that you take measures against infectious diseases.
